Re: Tracked Packets..Volume and Staff>
On a related note, over the last 3 weeks and into the New Year, we were told the mail centre had decreed that tracked parcels could no longer be coped with, so they decided that they would treat them as normal packets. e.g. no scanning of barcodes and confirmation of delivery and n/l for people not in an no attempt to redeliver as per the terms of the tracked licence. Also, as the van driver in our spdo declared he had too much to do and he was not doing on iota of ot that he wouldn't be delivering all the tracked, we were then told to red card all the tracked parcels that were too big for postmen/women to take out, which to press has amounted to approx 150 notice lefts without any attempt at actual delivery, meanwhilst the huge pile of tracked items plus the daily arrival of s**t-loads of mail and sacks of packets got so bad that the subpostmistress threatened to close the office until a H&S assesment had been done as there was literally no room to move.
Surely this represents a gross failure and also potential fraudulant treatment of tracked items under the terms that companies paid for? Who would I report this failure to? And has it happened in any other offices? I'm sure it didn't happen in mail centres but I'll bet there were a fair few other spdo's in the same situation. Basically, wherever management knew that no-one important would see it. Thoughts?

As a business customer I have posted about this in the customer forum: the suspension of scanning of RM Tracked items, inaccurate scanning as delivered, stockpiling of delayed items with some taking over 3 weeks to be delivered, RM Business Customer Services not giving a toss telling me they are not obliged to scan, they can suspend for operational reasons and there is no compensation available. Surely Royal Mail is in breach of not just its license but the Trade Descriptions Act?

Re: Tracked Packets..Volume and Staff>
After all the banging on about how they needed new "products" to help them gain more market and all the hoo-haa about "tracked" parcels in the Courier, what a pity nobody actually bothered to ensure that there were enough resources (in other words "staff") to actually cope with demand. As others have stated in other threads, the weather has been an absolute godesnd for management this year as it is their get out clause for all failures of the last 4 weeks. I feel very sorry for the chap who just said he had paid a lot to send his items tracked with no comeback for the failure of the product he was entitled to. Sadly, I suspect this kind of behaviour will become more commonplace once privatisation kicks in. Mangement bonuses will go up, and occasionally someone will be made scapegoat and "sacked" whilst leaving with a golden handshake.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Tracked Packets..Volume and Staff>
Our MC stopped scanning Tracked mail on the 6th December and started again on the 29th December. Even with 15 staff working a full eight hours on it we could not clear even half of the cages of tracked that we received. We were just told that scanning of all items was suspended and that if we could not shift it all then it was to be put on the MC floor and dealt with like all the other packets. In other words, not shifted!

i thought packets want covered under the uso , so who would you report this to royal mail as its not an issue for postcommWiggins79 wrote:On a related note, over the last 3 weeks and into the New Year, we were told the mail centre had decreed that tracked parcels could no longer be coped with, so they decided that they would treat them as normal packets. e.g. no scanning of barcodes and confirmation of delivery and n/l for people not in an no attempt to redeliver as per the terms of the tracked licence. In extreme cases, wouldn't Trading Standards, be able to intervene?

Well the guy I was speaking to from RM Business Customer Services when I was complaining about non scanning told me "if you don't like it write to the chairman!" when I said I want my complaint escalating, and he added “but you still won’t get any compensation”. Customer Service my arse!andy2007 wrote:In extreme cases, wouldn't Trading Standards, be able to intervene?

Sadly, although his attitude is disgraceful. He's actually right. Because Postcomm, allows RM Managers to decide to suspend Tracking (as in this case), process Live (not failed) Mail before processing any backlog, etc., for "operational reasons". So as far as Postcomm, and RM Management is concerned, there's no case to answer. It's a situation which I find embarrasing (to say the least), because when I joined RM, we were a Public Service. And I still think that providing a good service is the most important thing (and I'm by no means unusual among Posties for this). But there's nothing internally, we can do about it. But you might get a better response by taking your complaint outside RM.

Me too. We were told tracking had been 'suspended' for several weeks in the run-up to Christmas, and I thought feck me, if the public knew about this, no sane person would pay amazon for anything other than the cheapest (i.e. free) delivery option when ordering goods online.andy2007 wrote:Sadly, although his attitude is disgraceful. I think it is also morally wrong for managers to take the attitude 'right, this backlogged mail has already failed, so we'll plough all our resources into clearing TODAY'S mail'. That is disgusting. Clearing the backlog should be the priority, even if today's mail then fails as a result. How would these managers like it if they spent 30mins queueing at the checkout in Asda, then saw people at the back of the queue being served first ? I'm sure the response of 'oh well, you're already p!ssed off at how long you've had to wait, so what's the sense in us making more customers p!ssed off with us when we can give THEM priority over YOU'

Its the same thinking that operates in the commerical world, Easy Jet for example. In my old job as a Customer Care Phone Drone sometimes we had delays due to lack of products in storage and the manager always said if the order is over x days only send it when all new orders have been filled. The reason he used was its better to have a few really upset customers than upset all of them. It was also easier for him to manager as well.
Do I agree with it - No. But sadly it is a reality and once we are privatised them more of this will happen.
