Fury at 11-day wait for post: Royal Mail apologises as snow disrupts deliveries

ANGRY householders across East Yorkshire have not received post for up to 11 days.
Royal Mail confirmed people living in HU, DN and YO postcodes may not be receiving letters or parcels due to the icy conditions.
In some areas, mail is reaching sorting depots but postmen have claimed it is too dangerous underfoot for them to complete deliveries.
Post offices are being inundated with disgruntled people, with one East Riding branch receiving 300 calls in one day.
The situation has left residents and businesses without mail at one of the busiest times of the year for the postal network.
The Mail has been told of people desperately waiting for holiday tickets and firms not receiving crucial contracts.
Royal Mail apologised for the disruption, saying deliveries were being made as quickly as possible in the winter weather.
But Pamela Needham, of Withernsea, is among those demanding answers about the delay.
She said "We haven't received mail for a week and a half and I think it's ridiculous, it's health and safety gone mad.
"My husband travels through Hull to Doncaster every day for work without any problems, so why can't the post come in the opposite direction?
"They are delivering to nearby places such as Thorngumbald, so it doesn't make sense they are missing us out. It seems like a postcode lottery.
"This has been a real inconvenience for us – we have been waiting for tickets for a holiday we are taking this month."
In the East Riding, Beverley, Elloughton, Aldbrough, Wawne, Withernsea, Ottringham, South Cave, Skidby, North Ferriby, Cherry Burton, Skeffling, Preston, Cottingham and Molescroft are among the places affected.
And residents in east Hull, Orchard Park, north Hull, the Avenues and Hull city centre, have contacted the Mail to say post is struggling to get through.
Elloughton Post Office said they had received hundreds of calls about postal problems.
A spokesman said: "We've had 300 calls about this today.
"The post is getting to Hull's Malmo Road sorting office and Brough, but it's down to the postmen to deliver it. We're frustrated as we're waiting for stuff coming into us."
Royal Mail operations director Alison Wright said: "We apologise to those customers who have experienced delays to their deliveries as a result of the weather.
"I'd like to stress that we are continuing to deliver to the majority of addresses across East Yorkshire.
"Unfortunately, in some cases it is simply not currently possible to do so because of the weather, which has worsened in some areas in recent days."

Maybe if some of the "public" could be bothered to clear their driveways and paths and maybe the road entrance as well we might manage it. Instead though, due to selfishness it is now taking at least twice as long to deliver a street as before due to spending most of the time "dancing on ice."
It really wears my patience thing when people always say "my husband/ children/ dog manages to get to his school/ work/ dogpark(!) why can't the postmen?" Nearly always followed by "It's health and safety gone MAAAAAAD!" I hate to spoil you're blinkered view of things, but there is a massive difference between sitting in a car or walking for 30 minutes to then sit in a heated office/ classroom for the next 7 hours and walking around in treacherous conditions with 16kg of weight on your back in below freezing temperatures for 4 hours.
