£70m shopping centre plan for former Coventry sorting office

THE former Bishop Street mail centre in Coventry could be transformed into a £70 million shopping centre.

The site's new owners want to keep the existing shell of the building but turn the bottom floors into retail and the upper floors into accommodation.

Property firm Barberry Group say they also would like to take down the 'bouncy' canal basin bridge and create a pedestrian crossing across the ring road.

The mail centre closed at the end of November after work transferred to a huge new sorting office in Northampton and two smaller delivery offices in Coventry.
