Wife of Wick torture victim features in charity calendar

The wife of Wick torture victim James Ross has starred in a charity calendar to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Donna Ross, 26, wears see-through angel wings in her snap for the calendar, which was launched in Inverness on Friday.

Mr Ross, also 26, of Gunns Terrace, Wick, disappeared after travelling to Portugal on October 5.

Two days later Mrs Ross took a call saying that he had been kidnapped.

The former postman was subjected to horrific torture. He lost an ear, fingers, toes and had a testicle severed and tendons slashed while held in captivity for almost a fortnight.

His captors kept him alive by cauterising the wounds with a red-hot poker to stop blood loss. Mr Ross is currently under guard as he undergoes plastic surgery in a Portuguese hospital. Six people have been arrested over the attack.

Mrs Ross has rubbished claims the torture was linked to a £10,000 drug debt.

She said: “I am not allowed by the Portuguese police to talk about what happened to James. But we are in touch daily and he is getting better.”

On Friday night she put her troubles behind her at the calendar launch at an Inverness nightclub.

She is one of 12 women to star in the calendar in aid of Help for Heroes, which aims to provide practical support for those injured in the armed forces.

Mrs Ross said: “We’ve worked so hard for months to get this calendar off the ground and I think everyone will agree all the girls look stunning. It hasn’t been easy after what happened, but we have managed it and we are proud of it.

“Sometimes you feel that there isn’t enough support for those who are willing to lay down their lives for their country so we’re trying to help in our own way.”
