Shane O'Riordain gets new job, and a few stamps, licked

The man who many will remember from his time spinning for Lloyds bank – a business that went from private to public ownership – is now going to spin for an organisation going from public to private ownership, Royal Mail.

O'Riordain has just signed up to take over from corporate and government affairs director Mary Fagan (formerly of this parish). Shane's not commenting but I understand an announcement is going out shortly.

O'Riordain will be working for the newly installed Royal Mail boss Moya Greene. Best of luck. The former Canadian postmistress was so popular after cutting jobs at Canada Post that protesters created a Moya Greene webpage.

The most striking item on it is Ms Greene dressed as Darth Vader. Charming.

So if O'Riordain gets the job he will be dealing with Greene, the Government, the posties and, just occasionally, us, the consumers.

Good thing then, that before getting into finance and PR O'Riordain had a completely different career – he was a diplomat.
