A FEMALE security guard was attacked during an attempted armed robbery of a Post Office van outside a Sherwood Rise shop.
Two men, believed to have been armed with firearms, attacked the guard just before 11.45am today outside the Londis store in Beech Avenue, just off Sherwood Rise.
The security guard sustained leg injuries, not thought to be life threatening, and has been taken to Queen's Medical Centre for treatment.
The robbers did not steal any money but made off in a car.
Iris Smith, who runs Beech Cafe in Beech Avenue, said: "Someone came running in off the street because there was a van under attack and we found out it was a post office van.
"There were bangs heard by several people.
"You never think it's going to happen by your shop."
Anyone with any information on the attempted armed robbery is asked to contact Notts Police on 0300 300 9999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
