Royal Mail says Craven Arms delivery office is safe

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Royal Mail today denied rumours there are plans to close a south Shropshire delivery office.

Craven Arms Town Council wrote to Royal Mail last month for clarification that the town’s service was not going to be transferred to Ludlow and also to complain about services.

Councillors said some premises in town were not receiving post until 3pm.

Richard Hall, Royal Mail senior external relations manager, said: “I must state that we have no plans to move the operation at Craven Arms to Ludlow.”

He added: “We have had issues with staffing levels at Craven Arms and despite recruiting staff earlier in the year we have since had a number of people leave the business.

“This may well be due to the rumours circulating about the future of the operation at Craven Arms and we continue to make it clear that there are no plans to move to Ludlow.”

Councillor Clive Leworthy, chairman of Craven Arms Town Council said: “They are denying that there’s going to be a closure.

“There was denial they were going to close Church Stretton a couple of years ago.

“They did close it and moved it down to Craven Arms.

“They will be looking for further cost reductions I would imagine so we will have to watch this space.”

So the big question is whether it will be late this year or early next year that the closure of Craven Arms Delivery Office is officially announced.
