A busy post office was closed for days after police were on scene to support a Royal Mail investigation.
The Furze Platt branch was shut last Thursday morning and did not re-open until Monday morning - leaving many users in the lurch.
But neither the Post Office nor Thames Valley Police would explain why the Furze Platt Road public service was out of action for so long.
A Post Office spokeswoman said it was 'closed for operational reasons' but would offer no further explanation.
A spokesman for police said officers were on scene 'to provide operational support to an investigation being led by the Royal Mail'.
No official reason for the temporary shut-down was offered for disappointed customers on site either, who visit from far and wide following the permanent closure of the Cookham Road office in 2008.
