Husband of Melsonby postmistress released on bail

A man accused of murdering his postmistress wife at her village store has been granted bail.

Robin Garbutt, 45, denies killing Diana Garbutt, 40, whose body was found in their home above Melsonby Post Office in March.

A judge at Teeside Crown Court granted him bail on Monday after the court heard of a potentially significant breakthrough in the case.

A hearing will now be held at the court on 4 October to set a new trial date.

Mr Garbutt was originally due to go on trial on 4 October.

Judge Mr Justice Calvert-Smith granted Mr Garbutt bail and he will be released from custody within 48 hours.

Mr Garbutt has been held on remand since April when he was charged with his wife's murder.
