Red faced postal bosses have apologised after a letter sent to them in one of their own envelopes was returned to the sender marked "Not known at this address."

Baffled Mike Malyszczyk, 40, from Plauen, Germany, had bought the pre-addressed envelope from his local post office to make sure the letter got there.

"It's come to something when the postman can't even find the Post Office. They were probably too lazy to deliver it," he said.

A postal service spokesman said: "This was very embarrassing and we apologise unreservedly. It was an isolated incident and we promise it won't happen again."
