Hundreds of unopened letters have been found dumped at the back of offices in Manningham.
Some of the post dated as far back as last September and this May, said solicitor Edward Wegorzewski who made the discovery as he arrived at work on Monday.
Since then, he has been trying to get the post back to Royal Mail, but says it has been a thankless and frustrating task so far.
“It’s been me who’s been doing the rounds. I thought when I rang to say what I’d found that Royal Mail would have been straight over to get it.
“I can see the roof of the main sorting office at Forster Square from my desk window, but I haven’t been able to contact anyone. I’ve rung various sorting offices for Bradford South and Bradford West, but no-one could help.
“They said they didn’t have a number for Forster Square. I’ve even ended up talking to some woman at Royal Mail in Plymouth, but no-one’s got back to me.
“It seems the people waiting for these letters are going to have to wait even longer. You’d think with postmen and vans on the streets every day that they would have found time to pick it up.”
Mr Wegorzewski said some of the letters that had already been opened contained bills and hospital appointments.
“It’s not on at all. There will be all sorts of personal details in those letters. This kind of information would be gold-dust in the wrong hands.”
Mr Wegorzewski and colleagues managed to pick up about 200 letters strewn about the cobbled street at St Jude’s Place behind Runhams LLP Solicitors, but there were more that they could not reach because they had blown behind iron bars of a yard.
Hours after the Telegraph & Argus contacted Royal Mail’s communications department, a manager was despatched to collect the mail.
A Royal Mail spokesman said before the collection: “We’re very sorry and concerned to hear that no-one from Royal Mail has yet been to collect the mail from Mr Wegorzewski and we’re grateful to him for bringing the incident to our attention and keeping the items safe.
“A manager is contacting Mr Wegorzewski to apologise in person and arrange collection of the items this afternoon. We can assure all our customers that we take mail security very seriously and we will be investigating the incident urgently.”
