FOUR Barking couriers who stole thousands of pounds worth of phones and high-tech electrical goods from the mail have escaped jail.
City Link drivers Trevor Griffith, Clive Myrie and Margaret Thomas, all 44, and Faye Clark, 32, swiped the mobile phones, flat screen TVs and iPods they were supposed to deliver.
They took items worth £6,954 between April and May 2008, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard on August 27.
Myrie, of Warwick Grove in Hackney, stole £2,800 worth of goods, and was convicted of seven thefts.
Griffith, of Croft Street in Limehouse, was convicted of five thefts and £2,500 in goods. Thomas, of Crofton Road, Plaistow, was convicted of two thefts worth £626, and Clark of Langdon Hills, Basildon, of three thefts worth £1,028.
Griffith and Myrie were sentenced to an eight months suspended sentence and ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service.
Clark and Thomas, received four-month suspended sentences and were ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.
