Arrest over Telford post theft

A 31-year-old man has been arrested after a bundle of personal mail belonging to 15 homes in Telford was stolen from a postman’s pouch.

The post was taken while the Royal Mail worker was delivering in Granville Street in St Georges on Monday morning.

The man was also quizzed on suspicion of stealing hoovers from B&M Bargains on Telford Forge Retail Park and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said officers searching the man’s home as a result of the investigation also discovered 10 containers each holding 25 litres of diesel fuel.

He said: “We are talking about 250 litres of fuel, which is a lot, so at the moment we are trying to establish if anyone has had any fuel stolen in the last couple of weeks that has not been reported to us.”

The postman spotted a man running to a car from the direction of where his bike and mail had gone missing. When he challenged the man, he sped off in the car in the direction of Gower Street.

The mail has not been recovered.

Royal Mail spokeswoman Sue Dakin said all customers affected had been notified by letter.

What's going to happen to the Postie? Up in front of the DOM for leaving his mail unattended....bet he won't do it again!

Anyone can make a mistake. Especially when under pressure. But I bet the DOM doesn't take that into consideration!

That depends on whether it was an isolated incident, caused by a moemetary lapse in judgement. Or whether there's a pattern. That's something which should be looked into, before making a judgement.

For example: Someone who's late for work, a meeting, or whatever. Needs to run into a shop for something, and forgets to lock the car, but takes the keys in. He/she gets back from the car, to find that someone's nicked their car stereo, taken their bag/briefcase, etc.. Is that carelessness, or a temporary lapse in judgement?

"a moemetary lapse in judgement" is the feeble excuse given in court for every road 'accident' caused by every careless motorist 'of previous good character'

Why do you think it's called "Human Error"?
The important things to consider, are:
1) Is there a history of similar problems.
2) Could it have been caused by a single act/omission. Or could it only have happened, due to a series of mistakes.

No, I've made many a mistake over the years but i've never got anyone to come out with that crap in court to try to get a reduced sentence.
