The IET has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding with Royal Mail, marking the beginning of an exciting new partnership for the two organisations.
Under the agreement, the IET and Royal Mail will work collaboratively to promote the benefits of IET membership to relevant Royal Mail staff.

While the IET and Royal Mail have already worked together for a number of years, Royal Mail has now committed to ensuring that its team of over 900 engineers and technicians will all be members of the IET.

These staff members will also be encouraged to seek professional registration. In particular, Royal Mail intends to sponsor as many of its staff as possible for EngTech, with an aim of over 500 registrations over the next three years.

Mark Organ, the IET’s membership recruitment manager, said: “We are extremely pleased to be working with Royal Mail to assist them with the professional development and recognition of their engineers and technicians. For the IET, this is a first in terms of the volume of members on a group partnership scheme. We hope that it will become a model for future agreements with other organisations."

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding took place on Thursday 29 July at the IET’s Michael Faraday House headquarters in Stevenage.

Definition
Document that expresses mutual accord on an issue between two or more parties. MOUs are generally recognized as binding, even if no legal claim could be based on the rights and obligations laid down in them. To be legally operative, a MOU must (1) identify the contracting parties, (2) spell out the subject matter of the agreement and its objectives, (3) summarize the essential terms of the agreement, and (4) must be signed by the contracting parties. Also called letter of intent.
