The U.S. Postal Service is conducting a study to determine the feasibility of relocating delivery operations now housed at some smaller post offices to nearby larger postal facilities.

Included in the study are Denton County offices in Krum, Pilot Point and Justin. Officials say the move would result in lower overhead and administrative costs, and increased efficiency and productivity.

“At this time, no final decisions have been made,” said Sam Bolen, a spokesman for the Postal Service’s Fort Worth District.

Bolen stressed that any changes would be seamless to customers.

If the study did lead to changes in area postal operations, the jobs of the employees in those smaller offices would not be affected, Bolen said, and “all career employees will be assigned to USPS positions for which they are qualified.”

Bolen said some employees might move to other locations, but they would still have a job, and all moves would be done in accordance with applicable agreements with the employees union.

Customers would continue to use the same mailing address and ZIP code, and delivery customers with “left notice” items would continue to pick these up at the their local post offices. Local post office retail and post office box services would remain, Bolen said.

No timetable has been set for the completion of the study.
