Local photographer offers a glimpse into the Sun Street Royal Mail Centre in new exhibition at Light House

Light House Balcony Gallery in Wolverhampton will soon be host to an intriguing exhibition which offers a glimpse into the workings of the Royal Mail’s Mail Centre at Sun Street, Wolverhampton. Photographer Keith Harris has worked for Royal Mail for just over 30 years and has an insider’s perspective on the hive of activity which employs over a thousand people. Workplace: A Portrait of the Mailcentre, Wolverhampton will run from Thursday 5 – Monday 30 August and admission is free. In his exhibition Keith wanted to contrast the institutional, impersonal spaces of the mailcentre against the more individual and social aspects of the community that work there.

Light House Curator Kathryn Kliszat said, “In his photographs Keith wanted to reveal the unseen people who work for the Royal Mail. They are not the people who deliver the post, but they are just as important, because they make sure that when the mail is collected, it is sorted and despatched to its destination. They work in the mailcentre which collects and sorts mail for the North West Midlands area, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.”
