UNI Post & Logistics Norwegian affliate, Postkom has stepped up its fight against mail directive and wants to mobilise popular resistance

UNI Post & Logistics Norwegian affliate, Postkom has stepped up its fight against mail directive and wants to mobilise popular resistance. "We are launching the campaign website http://www.postdirektivet.no" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to inform about the directive and bring up our points," said Odd Christian Øverland, union leader Postkom.

Postkom has long worked against the EU's third directive mail becoming a part of Norwegian law. They have been doing this as they believe it will lead to liberalisation of the letter mail market in Norway. The EU Postal Directive will affect communities outside the Oslo area in the form of poorer and more expensive postal services. The government is now in an assessment phase which will be crucial say Postkom and they assume that the government will take a position on the directive within the next year.

"We want to reach out to businesses and municipalities with information about the consequences of the postal directive for people. http://www.postdirektivet.no" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is an important part of this work. There is still uncertainty about the government's final decision in the matter. Although polls show that a large majority of the population are against the introduction of the directive, it is important to give people insights and arguments in the case", said Odd Christian Overland, Postkom President.

"We want the grass roots in Norway to give clear messages to the government that good and reliable postal services are an important part of our infrastructure that helps people to work and live in the country. Such mail policy is almost impossible within the framework of the EU Directive mail, "said Overland.
