A postman suffered head injuries when he was run down by his own car in a freak accident in Tyrol yesterday (Thurs).

Police in the town of Hart in the province’s Ziller Valley said today the 45-year-old did not apply the handbrake properly when he parked his car at a sloping road outside a house as he delivered the mail.

The vehicle rolled over the man as he opened the boot to grab a parcel.

The man’s upper body and head got stuck under the car. The post deliverer was freed when a resident who rushed to his help after hearing him screaming in agony. It took the quick-thinking local around ten minutes to lift the vehicle with a car jack.

Local authorities said the injured man was recovering in a clinic in Schwaz, adding that his injuries were not life-threatening.

This incident comes after an elderly farmer suffered serious injuries when his tractor ran him over during forestry work near Going, Tyrol.

The 72-year-old was removing tree trunks with this son when the vehicle began rolling towards them down a steep embankment. While his son managed to get clear, the elderly man was run down by the tractor.
