POLICE are searching for two men who have gone missing in York.

The first man, Steven Gaffney, 39, works for Royal Mail. He was last seen by his friends at the Tiger public house in Haxby at around 2.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

The last time he made contact with anyone was in the early hours of Tuesday and he has not spoken to friends or family since.

Mr Gaffney, from Acomb, is described as white, about 5ft 7in tall with a slim build and short brown hair which is cropped but spiked up in the middle. He has a brown beard and wears glasses.

It is thought that he may be wearing blue jeans, a grey zip-up hooded top and a t-shirt bearing the slogan ‘Anyone but England for South Africa 2010.’ Anyone with information that could help the investigation is urged to contact PC Sam Bolland on 0845 6060247.

In a separate incident a second man, 66-yr-old Derek Hatfield, has gone missing from York Hospital.

Mr Hatfield is from Staffordshire but was living temporarily in the York area.

He was last seen by nursing staff leaving the south entrance of York Hospital at around 1.30pm yesterday. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Mr Hatfield is described as white about 5ft 10in tall with short balding grey hair, greying facial stubble and is of a stocky build. When last seen he was wearing a cream sweater and light-coloured chino trousers.

Anyone who can help is asked to call PC Gail McKenzie on 0845 6060247.
