Ammanford PO branch three-day closure brings apology

The Post Office has apologised for a branch being closed unexpectedly.

Customers arriving at the post office in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, have found it shut since Thursday.

Officials said the branch had shut temporarily due to "contractual issues", but steps are being taken to have it reopen early next week.

Local resident James Lewis, 79, said: "All the little post offices have closed, so we're more dependent on this big one."

Mr Lewis said his wife went to the post office on Saturday and found it locked up with a note on the door saying it was closed for an audit.

When she inquired at a nearby store she was told the branch had been closed since Thursday, he said.

He said: "It doesn't take three days to hold an audit.

"While she was there, one or two people turned up in a taxi and so forth to collect their pension and they had to just transfer to another place.
'Temporary'

"When it closes you wonder what's going on."

A spokesperson for Post Office Limited said it was hoped the branch would reopen on Monday.

He said: "We are aware that the Ammanford branch is closed since last Thursday due to contractual issues and we would like to apologise to our customers affected by this temporary closure.

"However, we hope that the branch will reopen early next week.

"In the meantime our customers may use any other Post Office branches in the area to undertake their business, the nearest being Llandybie and Glanamman."

the post office was open monday morning. two people have been released on bail.

tut @ royal mail info.. they omitted tycroes post office as an alternative. llandybie is 2 miles away, glanamman is 2 miles away, and so is tycroes.

wonder why they didn't mention tycroes?

actually, what it said on the audit notice was nearest post office Llandybie - it didn't mention glanamman at all

local paper reportd of discrepancies in thr finances. the newsagents side to the post office has been cleared. 'not sure about the hairdresser side of the post office building. police say they are investigating an allegation of fraud related offences, released the two on bail further enquiries

i was there on may the 5th last wednesday.. everything looked normal as usual.

i put up an enquiry flag in customers on saturday cos i went there to buy a paper and noticed it was closed, and i cannot find it in customers
