Dear Colleague

Parcelforce Worldwide Managerial Change

You will be aware of the recent promotion of Dave Smith (former Managing Director Parcelforce) to Managing Director of Post Office Limited.

In light of this change it has been decided with the new Acting Managing Director of Parcelforce, Dick Stead that a joint statement will be issued today. The agreed joint statement is attached for your information and you will note that it reaffirms the relationship that exists between the union and the business and our continued joint commitment to the success of the business and reward for employees.

Branches are requested to ensure as a matter of urgency that our Parcelforce representatives are made aware of this LTB and that full publicity of the joint statement is given and it is displayed on all CWU notice boards for our members’ attention/information.

Any enquiries relating to this matter should be addressed to Terry Pullinger, Assistant Secretary, email dwyatt@cwu.org, quoting reference No.111.

Yours sincerely

Terry Pullinger

============================================================================================================

As you will be aware Dave Smith has been promoted to Managing Director, Post Office Limited. This reflects well, not just on his capability, but also on the continuing successes of Parcelforce Worldwide as a whole. Under Dave's leadership and with the efforts of all of our colleagues, Parcelforce Worldwide has been transformed into a successful, customer focused profitable business. Employee satisfaction has steadily improved and this in turn has helped to drive improved customer satisfaction which is the source of our growth.

We have achieved this fantastic turnaround through focusing on the customer, increasing our productivity and involving and engaging the CWU in key areas of change. Dave was pleased to adopt the CWU Table of Success framework for developing the business and, despite the difficult environment we found ourselves in throughout 2009/10, the joint working/mutual interest approach has helped to make Parcelforce Worldwide into a successful and vibrant business.

It is an increasingly competitive world however and unfortunately the market does not stand still; average parcel prices have dropped significantly over the past 12 months and our customers are demanding lower prices - our competitors will take their business if we do not react in a positive manner. So, Parcelforce Worldwide faces a new set of challenges in 2010/11 and cannot rest on its laurels despite the successes in the past 2 years.

Nevertheless, we are not daunted by these new challenges and believe that by continuing our partnership approach we can overcome new obstacles, at the same time as improving employee satisfaction, increasing customer focus and achieving the levels of profit demanded by our shareholder. This will in turn provide the investment to help us grow our business and to continue to ensure that our people have well rewarded, secure jobs.

The recipe for success has not changed.....we can succeed through, engagement and involvement at all levels across the business, building on the achievements of the table of Success and keeping our customers at the centre of all that we think and do.

We are committed to continue to work together to deliver success for Parcelforce Worldwide, our customers, our people and our shareholders; our immediate priority is to conclude a reward package that reflects your past and continuing efforts through the 2009-2011 period and to introduce initiatives which will improve our efficiency, competitive edge and continue our successful growth.

I thought at the bottom it said 'dick head' :left:

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
