TAMWORTH postie Peter Armitage got to rub shoulders with the stars after he received a top award for his work with the community.

Peter, who lives in Amington, was invited to the 2010 Children's Champions Awards, which was televised on Sky One last week.

He met a host of celebrities including Sharon Osbourne, model Caprice, the Jedward twins, former EastEnder Ross Kemp and actor Andy Serkis.

And he also travelled to 10 Downing Street to meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Buckingham Palace, where he met Prince Andrew.

Peter, a postman for more than 20 years, was presented with the Post Office Award for raising cash for disadvantaged families and helping to send hundreds of children on holidays to Butlins in the past decade.


"My head was in a whirl," he said. "It was an amazing experience.

"It was so unreal to be surrounded by the faces you see on TV and rubbing shoulders with them."
