Our branch is off to Bournemouth tomorrow,so I won't cast a full opinion. If the branch don't buy it,(or other Branches for that matter) then there will be trouble.
5 years ago we were briefed about D2D and the amount we could potentially earn.It worked out to about 50 million. This was a briefing by the union. Not a Royal Mail one. This figure was confirmed again by Royal Mail during negotiations. However, now that a certain,(I use this term loosely) amount of this money is now available, how much of it is being spent on full time/part time post people? Is it all of it?
Are Royal mail using the rest to fund the pension? Please let it not to used on Bonuses! I hope the CWU hold Royal Mail to their own statement during negotiations last week in which the CWU stated that "it would get every last drop out of the business for it's members".
I would also like to play devil's advocate here, bear with me,(not trying to sell the deal by any means!).
Once we will now be involved with Pegasus and it's parameters,(and Indoor Workload Tool),we will now be able to slow walk speeds down and incraese call rates.Could this not mean more hours?
Since last year we have struggled due to stress and fatigue levels. This is mentioned in the new agreement and to be addressed.Although we will not earn what an un-capped D2D would bring us,I wonder how many of us REALLY do our current 3 per week.I know in most offices there are a handfull of D2D barons who "do" most of the postpeoples. If it meant that we are actually taking the extra work out with us,(with a no later start then 7:00),carrying less weight. Is there a "small" possibility that we HAVE to finish? I mean you can't use your car for starters, you only save 19 minutes off your IPS,(with sequencing). You have to have your meal relief. You still will get paid your D2D supplement and your weekly wage....you only have to give them 8 hours of your time?( or 7:40).
Again, just playing devils advocate here...don't shoot me down!
Longer Saturdays are a massive problem here and I cannot see anyway out other then:
a) Flood your place with one day contracts on a Saturday,(every other Saturday off for everyone?)
b) All overtime on a Saturday to be SA rate?
The workshop parties working on sickness agreement with a national appeals panel is in the agreement. If the business REALLY have banked on this "new technology" on the basis of Europe, and they REALLY believe in it..fine! What I think this agreement has done is make us work out time.I can only see this reason for this agreement. There is no way that the goverment will fill up a pension with up to 10 billion and given Royal Mail another 1.2 billion for us to carry on as we are,(not the business....US).
People were very interested this morning in our office about the agreement.Until 8:00 of course when 13 of them were queing up for their absorbed walk and having a ruck with each other. The whole yard then filled up with their own cars and they all rushed out to perform their absorptions. The bean counters at Royal Mail have noticed this sort of thing...and here we are now.......
I think some of it is workable...and I think some of it isn't

What a good post drb.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
