Delight at return of post box

A much-missed post box has been replaced in a rural area of Wokingham following a campaign by residents.

The post box, which had been missing since the summer when it was damaged by vandals, was put back in Heathlands Road last week.

Calls for return of vandalised post box

Vandals broke the box off its concrete post in Honey Hill at its junction with Heathlands Road, prompting Royal Mail to remove the facility.

Royal Mail initially said it had no plans to replace the post box, on the corner of Honey Hill, as there were others nearby in Nine Mile Ride and Waterloo Road.

MP joins campaign for post box return

However, last week, the post box was reinstated without warning a few metres away from its original location.

When it was removed, campaigners said it was particularly valued since motorists could pull over and park to post a letter, and there was nowhere to stop for alternative boxes in Nine Mile Ride.

John Hall, who campaigned for the post box to be returned said he is delighted at the news.

Councillor Angus Ross, the ward member for Wokingham Without, said: “Out of the blue, the post box has come back.

“The residents and parish council didn’t give up and pushed for its return.

“We are surprised and pleased.”
