At this moment in time the Government are still saying they will retun to issue of Royal Mail ownership when economic circumstances improve, will this be in the General election manifesto or will Gordon and Peter come out and say they no longer support a change in the ownership status of Royal Mail Group?

I think we all know the answer to this one, if labour lose the next election it will not matter , but if he wins you can already see where Brown is going, ID cards will be back in, and so will be the Royal Mail part sell off.

I’ve no doubt of that

W”hoever wins, Royal Mail will be sold off to generate funds. And deservedly so. Run by incompetents – exploited by incompetent Union leaders.

No brainer – sell it off.

Nope it will never be sold off completely, you would have to be brain dead to want to deliver the letters, that will be done by the government because it’s a total loss making area. So labour or the Tories wills sell off the rest and leave the dregs to the people that do the leg work the working class

The Royal Mail sell off is probably the only issue which ALL the three main parties agree on,albeit with Labour favouring a 30% sale,at this point, their Royal Mail bill, already through the Lords actually allows for a 49% sale, the Tories favour a complete sell-off,and so do the Lib Dems, back at the 1992 election I remember Labour making a big song and dance about the Tories plans, telling postal workers ‘Vote Labour to Save Your Jobs’ posters all over the sorting office walls,my how times change!,and the CWU General Secretary one Alan Johnson threatening allsorts of action, how silent he is today on this subject.

If anyone thinks that the current ‘to the door’ postal system will survive then they’ve been in the gin.

What wuil happen is the profit making parts will be sold on and the loss making parts retained. As a result, the cost to the tax payer will actually go up because there will be no profitable part subsidising the losses.

Then there’s the pension black hole. Any bets that will be lumped ontro the tax-payer as well?

Well Blair did say how he wanted it, he came out with collection points for your mail, the local post office, the local pub, the local brothel. Then you collect it from your pick up point or your mail box, which you will hire of course, real American…

I use Royal Mail daily and find it an excellent service. If thatcher didn’t privatise it, it probably shouldn’t be privatised. We won’t appreciate what we had till it’s gone.

Yes but we now know a lot more about Thatcher and the Thatcher period does not look so Rosy now that the papers are released.

The Royal mail for me should be state owned and run for the people, on the other hand it has to make a profit, although it does not have to go into the billions new labour love

It did for the Thatcherites, and for the new labour copy cats, and I have to say for me as a disabled person, Thatcher gave me in one go £90 a a week in extra benefits with DLA.

OK the miners and other struggled but I was dead lucky to travel to Scotland in the hope of finding work and ended up on an Oil Rig, then on the Gas pipe lines from Scotland.

dam sight better then to day.

Just for the record Royal Mail DID make a substantial operating profit all through Maggie Thatchers time and indeed John Majors, the s**t hit the fan in 1997 when the newly elected Labour Government DOUBLED the EFL,that’s the External Funding Limit or simply put what the Treasury take from Royal Mail,Parcelforce had been making record losses of around 150 million a year, mostly due to theft from within the system and from ‘doorstepping’ items and of course very many lost contracts to their competitors,Readers Digest for example cost them arounf 250 jobs alone!

The two guys responsible for totally screwing up the Post Office/Royal Mail are BROWN AND MANDELSON who shafted all the money out of it,much of which would have been spent on modernisation projects which were mostly cancelled as a result, the pension fund problem is almost entirely down to Royal Mail being allowed a ‘pensions holiday’ from 1991 to 2003,thus not putting anything into the scheme.
