A letter which should have taken just a day to arrive has dropped through a letter box more than 1,300 days late.
In 2005 the Masque Theatre sent Kettering printing company, CTB Print and Design the instructions for a forthcoming newsletter.
The letter, which has the postmark April 18, 2005, finally arrived on Thursday.
Susanna Clark, who runs the business with her father Tony Bailey, said: "When I opened it I just thought the theatre had sent the wrong information through to me.
"I looked at some of the dates and they didn't match up to anything in 2010.
"I called the theatre and asked if they had sent something to us but they hadn't.
"It was only then that I looked at the date on the letter and realised it was 2005.
"I couldn't believe it. I've no idea what could have happened to it."
Mrs Clark, who is the company's graphic designer, said she was sent an electronic copy of the information which was contained in the letter so didn't question the missing letter when it failed to turn up.
CTB Print and Design Ltd is in Harcourt Street, in Kettering, and the Masque Theatre is in Barton Seagrave, less than two miles away.
The Royal Mail aims to deliver first class mail the next working day.
Mrs Clark said: "It's all a bit crazy and we've had a laugh about it. It's lucky that it was nothing vital being posted to us."
If the letter had been due to arrive the day after the date stamp on the envelope that makes it 1,333 days late.
A spokesman for Royal Mail said: "The item would have travelled along with around 75 million items of regular mail that we handle each day and unfortunately we have no way of tracking them as they travel through our system."
