Carol receives two Xmas cards – nearly a year late

A WOMAN is re-adding old friends to her Christmas card list after receiving some festive post nearly a year late.

When Carol Wilson received two Christmas cards earlier this month, (09/11) she thought her friends were getting extra organised this year.

But when she checked the dates on the envelopes, she found the festive greetings had been sent on December 15 last year.

Mrs Wilson, 51, from Tyson Square in Ulverston said: “I thought, ‘God, someone’s being over-zealous’ and then I saw the date.

“It’s a funny little thing, I’ve been friends with one of them since 1979, and I’d wondered what I’d done. It is heartwarming to know that two friends hadn’t forgotten me last year, I can put them back on my Christmas card list!”

While Mrs Wilson had a laugh at her snail mail, the delay could easily have ended in tears. Accompanying the two cards was a speeding ticket from Lancashire Constabulary, issued on the same date. The notice threatened a six-point penalty, a maximum £1000 fine, or a full disqualification for failure to reply.

Luckily for Mrs Wilson, she was driving a hire car when she was speeding, so the vehicle rental company had called her at the time to let her know about the charges.

Mrs Wilson added: “When you have a chance to think about it, it could have been quite serious. It wouldn’t have been funny if I hadn’t had prior notice from the car company about the ticket, I would have been terrified of having any action taken against me.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We are not aware of any delays to deliveries from Ulverston Delivery Office and so would urge the customer to contact Royal Mail customer services on 08457 740 740 who will investigate on her behalf.”

Should'nt RM be doing this as a matter of course instead of the customer having to do the ringing around?
