London to decide on further strikes on Monday

It is fair to say a few offices have seen some benefits from the interim deal including some work returning.

However in the vast majority of cases Royal Mail are still intent on attacking London and even now are offering overtime only to strike breakers rather then to all staff.In additon they are still flooding managers into our offices (200 in just 6 offices ) they are still diverting our work out.

This is totally unacceptable and is not happening in some other divisons. So Unless things improve dramitically then the London Divisonal committee are meeting on Monday to demand further action.

What is happening is quite clear that there is an internal war in Royal Mail with Higson and Hannon pushing the deal forward in a genuine way and Tolhurst and some of the regional directors undermining this and still intent on attacking places like London such is their hatred for us.

Well as I have said constantly we are were going to try and do our best to move this agreement forward for the sake of our members. But unless things improve with the next 4 days then on Monday we will be demanding that the PEC re -instate the strikes.

Royal Mail are under huge pressure as the christmas contracts are being tied up this week and next and an announcement of further strikes will undermine that process. However unless they take the gloves off then we will simply put them back on until they decide to honour the agreement.

Nationally i hope as it would be much more effective then to just have one area be it London on strike.

DIM's were briefed about the deal and was told no 4 day weeks would go back because of the last letter at 2 thing,conviently forgetting.....

We've had 3o'clock letter for the last 18 months
Flexing takes you past 2
Long and shorts take you past 2
RM are asking for all last letter times to be moved an hr later anyway
Our area is 3 last letter not 2

Oh and the deal was signed off by HIS boss twonk!!

Nobody in the field thought that there was any mileage in calling off the strikes. It is the leadership who had no stomach for the fight. There was a million miles to go for concessions to be made and changes to both the management and the acceptance by the government that they had at least some responsibility for the pensions deficit. If there is infighting within RM management then the government should step in - maybe with the governments voice at the table.

How well are strikes going to be supported now - that is the question? I don't want to hear "that's what RM want to hear" because what RM wanted to hear was "call off the strikes and have a strike free christmas" and that is exactly what they heard.

Of course you could always do ASAP on M3 and 2nd class, but that might require some thinking from management

The members on the frontline have had their fingers on the pulse, and the CWU leadership have been following 6 steps behind.
Then the PEC caught up, and said "we'll take it from here...." and proceeded to get it wrong and call off the strikes before any concrete results.
The Backlog of mail ( paid for by yours & my lost wages ) has been frittered away.
We are now being asked to do the same again.

The CWU has our best interests at heart - but they are going about it in the wrong way ( 2007 all over again )
