Ive been asked to do a niteshift on my own in our D.O. I told the DOM that i dont think this is legal working on my own due to h&s. Anyone shed any info on this . Thanks.

Probably it is not allowed - a minimum of at least 2 i would say & possibly 3 in attendance at one time ?? Contact your local/area CWU H&S Officer for confirmation of your local agreements regarding this issue.

there has to be at least two of you in an office at one time due to h&s and other resons like Security if anthing happens when your alone its just your word also if you have an accident there id nobody there to help you on these grounds i think it is an illegal practice i would talk to your cwu rep he will put you right on this

Really the manager shouldnt be allowing it as he has the responsibilty of the unit - he knows what the rules are, it breaches all of the security/saftey rules before theyve even started. You cant open/enter an office if your on your own.

It is not advisable to be working alone, whether it be day or night ...
However, the law does permit lone working, providing a thorough risk-assessment is made of the premises, the tasks undertaken and the general health of the individual also taken into account.
There is most probably guidance available on health and safety on various government and HSE websites.

I was under the impression that you are not allowed to lock or unlock an office on your own.

Thanks for the links folks. One person opens ond locks up our DO on a daily basis. Will be lookin into this also. Saturday is the worst day for this. Once the DOM's are off home 10.30/11.00 am the office is open & empty. Ive came back from the last collectin to find temp/casual staff floating around the place. And they wonder why specials go missing.
