ROYAL MAIL DISPUTE : UNITE (CMA MEMBERS)


Attached is a letter to CMA members issued by Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley, Joint General Secretaries of UNITE.

Branches will note that they are calling upon CMA members to undertake “no work beyond their normal duties”. Further, UNITE will support its CMA members if they are faced with disciplinary action as a result.

I,ve seen the document the DOM brought outside when he has a chat with us,there was a paragraph in there which they would not hesitate to ballot for strike action if managers were constanly harrased to to Postmans work.

Typical, now that the middle management are left to do our work it appears that it it is too much for them as we have found for ourselves. I think this is more the case rather than the work not becoming persons of their grade. Hopefully they will bear this mind when in the near future they are harassing us to take out more and work beyond our time.

Having written that: I welcome UNITE's support for our action, whilst at the same time would not wholly rely upon it. Possibly the thinking in that camp has come around to the idea that less postmen and women would at a future date mean less managers required to manage those whom are left and even greater pressure to implement a non-stop onslaught of cuts. Also if Royal Mail was to be privatised than the prospective owner will bring with them their own management displacing the current management to the dull queue. In the past the thinking was that privatisation would bring better rewards for those in managerial positions but it is increasingly becoming clear that those in the Royal Mail boardroom have no loyalty to any of the employees.
