It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I'm on leave this week, but come friday at 5am,I shall be on the picket line outside the gates. We have been advised by our area rep, that six pickets are the the limit, but we can have a few more, as long as we don't cause the police trouble by throwing bricks and setting fire to the vans........DOH! Managers included?

Re: Six pickets?
That is a recommendation Police will only intervene if anyone starts acting stupidly, Ie: giving verbal abuse, making threats etc, that also cuts both ways.roonaldo wrote:Is it law that there must only be six pickets at one time?

8. The Code itself imposes no legal obligations and failure to observe it does not by
itself render anyone liable to proceedings. But statute law provides that any provisions
of the Code are to be admissible in evidence and taken into account in proceedings
before any court, industrial tribunal or Central Arbitration Committee where they
consider them relevant.
Section B
Picketing and the Civil Law
9. The law sets out the basic rules which must be observed if picketing is to be carried
out, or organised, lawfully. To keep to these rules, attendance for the purpose of
picketing may only:
(i) be undertaken in contemplation or furtherance of a trade dispute;
(ii) be carried out by a person attending at or near his own place of work; a
trade union official, in addition to attending at or near his own place work, may
also attend at or near the place of work of a member of his trade union whom
he is accompanying on the picket line and whom he represents
Furthermore, the only purpose involved must be peacefully to obtain or communicate
information, or peacefully to persuade a person to work or not to work.

Last strike, a colleague brought his caravan and put outside gates, made it bit more cosy and pissed off manager cos we were'nt suffering. sat inside had cups of tea, had something to eat and read the papers! Not so lucky this time, he's left RM, never mind, we'll probably end up in my car!

Our office is next to a Costco and they sell loads of goodies, should keep us going through our shift on the gate!
Donut, I don't know if this helps, one of our lads is not in the union as yet, but was'nt sure where he stood regards striking, so he asked the manager, who said, if he went on strike 'it would'nt go against him'. But managers have been known to be economical with the truth on many occassions!! Good luck in your quest for the answer.
