Morning Star needs postmen to explain why they're striking
Hello posties,
I work for the Morning Star newspaper, which as you may or may not know, bills itself as the 'newspaper of the left'. We want to combat all the negative talk in the mainstream media about the strike - it would be good to get one (or more of you) to explain the events which have caused the strike to happen, and about the creeping privatisation of the Royal Mail. Something similar to what 'Roy Mayall' wrote in the London Review of Books would be perfect (http://www.lrb.co.uk/v31/n18/maya01_.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Don't worry about how long or short it is or making it grammar perfect - we can iron out any rough edges.
If you're interested or you want more details, you can email me at jonathanpaige@peoples-press.com . If you want to use a pseudonym, that would be fine.
Yours in solidarity,
johnny

If you wanted a story about what is happening then I suggest you go out and talk to the Posties etc as I always thought that is what journo's do (talk face to face with people). The reason for saying this is because you might get a lot of replies from RM managers pretending to be something they aren't.

hello wessex, whereabouts are you based? i know that we'll definitely be joining a picket line in london, but as you said, it would be good to get a rural perspective too.Wessex wrote:Why dont you come and join our office on the picket line for a rural posties perspective

hello jack, i believe we'll be doing this as well. as we're on a fairly tight deadline (and limited budget) though, what we really need is postmen giving their side of the story - as many as possible - unfortunately we don't have the resources to come and interview all of you face to face, although we will be coming out this week. as for rm managers, i think i can separate the wheat from the chaff.Jack Mehoff wrote:http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/inde ... eak-future#

Re: Morning Star needs postmen to explain why they're striking
just a bump to remind you that the more stories we receive from you, the postmen, the better. there'll be heavy coverage in the star, so there's a good chance what you say will get published. pm me or email jonathanpaige@peoples-press.com .

Re: Morning Star needs postmen to explain why they're striking
Im striking because the royal mails idea of modernization is to cut jobs and save money, i have seen no new technology supposed to help us sort the letters as promised 5 years ago. We are made to do extra deliveries now after our own and often dont have time within our 8 hr shift but are bullied by managers into completeing it and working over our time for free. The workload we are given now is simply unrealistic.

Just to let anyone interested know that the Morning Star paper can apparently be got from Martin McColl/Martins newagents but you might need to ask them to get a copy in the day before you want it. Find yer local Martin McColl store here or ask your local newsagent to get it in for you.
