Re: LEGAL action !
"There are strict laws that forbid employers and employment agencies using agency staff to break a lawful dispute and it is the job of Lord Mandelson’s department to enforce those laws. "
So, will he :
A. Ensure that these regulations are followed and enforced
or
B. Ignore it, change the law, and never mention it again.

Re: LEGAL action !
Come on, be honest, everyone knew RM would have a plan didn't they ?
My fear is, this is the tip of the iceberg.
Agency staff get recruited for Xmas, so it wasn't rocket science to see this one coming. Why the frig didn't the union talk to the employment agencies months ago ?

Re: LEGAL action !
By breaking the law he is liable to a hefty fine and disbarment from directorship for 10 years
Seems this government can choose which laws to ignore and which to apply, sort of makes a mockery of the legal system, dictatorship?
Maybe time to head to the European Court to see if they still do the upholding law stuff, cos however they spin the wording of this action our govt. is clearly and blatantly breaking the spirit of employment law.
Very sinister turn of events ,all workers beware

Re: LEGAL action !
Because we have to tell RM when, where and who is on strike they should tell us when where and who the agency people are, WHEN THEY WERE VETTED and where they'll be deployed - it only seems fair.

Re: LEGAL action !
I agree. The CWU leadership seems reactive in that they only seem to do things when they are forced to.Sorry i hate to say it but the leadership seem VERY SLOW in everything they are doing what do they expect RM to do we need STRONG leadership in the comming months
Individual strike action has broken out across the country and the leadership only got involved when they couldn't ignore it any more. What I'm saying is it is the postal workers who are forcing the union to negotiate, the action has been an uphill struggle, discontent has spread throughout offices and eventually the leadership has had to listen. My own area rep is in total disagreement with strike action, he can see things are going to become very uncomfortable for him and is planning on getting another job, he said this to me himself.
The further up the tree you go the more these people have to lose.
I'm not knocking reps who are paid but a lot have had a very comfortable ride for quite a while, time to put your money where your mouth is, maybe a change of leadership who knows.
I could be wrong but it's how I see it.
No I'm not being paranoid, they really are out to get me.

Re: LEGAL action !
Last-ditch talks aimed at preventing crippling postal strikes will be held on Monday.
The talks come as the unions consider a legal challenge to the recruitment of up to 30,000 temporary staff by Royal Mail.
The company, facing two national walkouts on Thursday and Friday, announced it was hiring twice the number of extra staff it usually takes on in the run-up to Christmas.
The leader of the Communication Workers Union, Billy Hayes, said the move would "inflame" the dispute over jobs, pay and services, and he repeated his call for outside mediators to be brought in to break the deadlock.
CWU officials said they believed the recruitment of temporary staff during a strike was illegal, and they received backing from other union leaders.
Regulations amended in 2007 state that an employment business may not supply a temporary worker to a hirer to replace an individual taking part in an official strike or any other official industrial dispute.

Re: LEGAL action !
If the union leadership didn't see this coming, well, they must be shortsighted. It seems obvious to me.
