Post your Christmas cards now in time for December 25

Christmas cards will not arrive on time unless they are posted within the next three weeks, postal workers have warned.

The Communication Workers Union said the situation could arise if an agreement at Royal Mail to resolve industrial action was not reached.

Union bosses say one million letters may never be delivered as tens of millions have built up as a result of rolling strikes.

Current Christmas last posting dates in the UK are Friday 18th December 2009 for second class post and Monday 21st December 2009 for first class.

Martin Walsh, the CWU's London representative, said: "Unless we get an agreement by the second or third week of October, the backlog is so big that it will impact upon Christmas.

"Royal Mail has drafted in managers, but all they're trying to do is to clear the mail that has been posted recently."

There have been a number of regional strikes in recent months over job disputes and pay.

The CWU is balloting 121,000 workers to hold a national strike before Christmas.
