Obama invited to UK conference

A leading UK trade union has invited President Barack Obama to speak at a black workers conference in the New Year.
The Communication Workers Union said the White House was considering the request for the US President to address the meeting in Dundee in February.
Linda Roy, the union's equality officer, said: "We're delighted that the White House is considering

our invite to President Obama.
"We are committed to maximising equality for all, especially under-represented groups like black and ethnic minority workers. We're particularly focused on raising the profile of our black workers conference for 2010 which is partly why we've invited President Obama to speak.
"There can be no more inspirational politician than Barack Obama. His election as US President has sparked huge debate and hope in our movement and his positive comments regarding the importance of trade unions is very welcome.
"The White House has responded to our invite by saying that for security reasons they only publish details of Mr Obama's commitments three months in advance. As they have not declined our invite this is encouraging.
It is one of several annual minority conference held by the union, which represents 230,000 people in the postal, telecommunications and financial services sectors.
