The DX, the only independent mail operator in the UK which doesn’t rely on Royal Mail for any part of its service, is gearing up for a boost to sales as the postal dispute looks set to intensify over the coming months.

"The CWU’s plan to hold a ballot for a national mail strike by Royal Mail workers concerns many businesses, but we've had over 30 years experience providing a reliable delivery and collection service for business mail that isn't dependent on the Royal Mail.

"We also have SecureDX – a secure, tracked next day delivery service to the majority of UK business and residential addresses – a real alternative to Royal Mail's Special Delivery service that can be delivered to non-DX members" it said.

In private ownership since 2006, the DX Group combines the strengths of DX Network Services Ltd, Secure Mail Services (SMS) and DX Business Direct Ltd.

Founded amidst the postal strikes of the 1970s, DX was actually the first and only alternative to Royal Mail. Secure Mail Services also have over 17 years experience as a best-practice industry leader in secure delivery. The DX is the only independent operator in the country to have its own end-to-end delivery network and more and more businesses are discovering just what The DX has to offer.

This is the company whose mail keeps turning up in our office with only a customer name and a dx number on it plus a franking mark - good job we know where they are supposed to go, but I wonder why they can't seem to be able to deliver them - short of staff maybe?

Don't solicitors use DX because I see lots of mail coming through for them with the name of the solicitor, a DX number and the town name but we deliver them.

Anyway, if they actually took on the universal delivery their heads would explode and they'd find out that it's easy to just deliver to a few businesses but it's another thing to deliver to everyone.

The DX mail with only a name and DX number gets into our system because the
solicitors firms that use them are supposed to keep them separate for collection
by DX but their post rooms frank them and put them into the RM postbags in error.
Really we should send them to the Belfast Dead Letter Office, but we usually do
manage to get them delivered because of our local knowledge.

We had a load earlier this year we surcharged the lot of them, as no postage had been paid.

Really we should send them to the Belfast Dead Letter Office, but we usually do

But first they should be surcharged as, unlike DSA, NO payment has been made to Royal Mail for 'the final mile'.

they come out with the same every strike as if they'll deliver any letter for 30p or so like Royal Mail
- but read a bit further and it talks of ' a real alternative to RM's Special Delivery service' which ironically is just about the only thing that RM managers might manage to keep going during a strike.

Yes we do get a lot that are unpaid, and I put them in the surcharge box, but a lot
of the newer (and poorly/untrained) staff don't know that they should be surcharged.

If those firms want to use DX , they can pay their fancy prices , if you were running a shop , would you turn a blind eye to price labels being swapped over for cheaper ones ( like a certain Millwall player did ? ) or to shoplifting ? .

I'm not that bothered about RM , but if people take the p**s ; it's personal .

There's a distinct lack of common sense , initiative & gumption amongst some staff , they wouldn't last five minutes in production and packing outside RM ?

Mind you alot of staff also seem oblivious to the fact that The freepost and business replies, go in their relevant boxes, im always pulling these out of my walks pigeon hole and stick them in the BR/Freepost box, so they can be charged up.

"DX, Keeping business mail moving during the strike" - that's a ridiculous claim given that they've not even been able to keep their own mail moving during normal circumstances. I've known a local taxi firm to be used for DX mail from the CPS office to the Crown Court when DX couldn't do it.
