Royal Mail staff raise cash for Sunshine Centre

STAFF from the Royal Mail sorting office in Grays have raised more than £1000 for Thurrock Council’s Sunshine Centre.

The 25 members of staff joined two employees from the centre in Tilbury at the Thurrock Cycle Marathon earlier this year .

They raised a total of £670 through sponsorship, which the Royal Mail’s Carers’ Society topped up to £1170.

The Sunshine Centre, in Civic Square, opened in September 2001 after parents in the area told the council they wanted somewhere that was designed specifically towards the needs of disabled children.

The centre now caters for children and young people aged up to 18 with different levels of disabilities.

It features interactive and sensory play so that young people can learn while they play.

Last Thursday three members of the Royal Mail team, Bob Pond, Claire Gibbons and Eddie Nanton visited the centre to hand over the money.
