SOLO PROTEST: Pensioners rights campaigner Mary Cooke supporting striking postal workers outside Peterborough Town Hall.
SOLITARY protester Mary Cooke stood firm as she took to the busy streets of Peterborough City Centre to show support for the striking postal workers.
The sprightly pensioner held a sign reading “pensioners, support your post man” outside the town hall, in Bridge Street, on behalf of the Peterborough Pensioners’ Association yesterday.
Mrs Cooke, of Orton Goldhay, said the association is supporting workers in Peterborough, which began strike action again on Wednesday, when delivery drivers took to the picket lines.
The industrial action continued yesterday when office workers walked out and continues today with collection drivers going on strike, which is over working conditions.
“We are supporting the postmen and women for the simple reason that most pensioners don’t have computers, so they are using the post for their communications.
“We have got to keep things the way they are,” said the 72-year-old.
