Action urged over post dispute

The Government has been urged to intervene in the postal dispute as more workers went on strike in an increasingly bitter dispute over jobs, pay and services.

Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) in London will stage a series of 24 walk outs over the next week, hitting mail deliveries. The union has accused Royal Mail of cutting pay and jobs - leading to worse services - without agreement, in breach of a deal which ended the last national strike two years ago. The company has denied the claims.

General secretary Billy Hayes called on the Government to help break the deadlock, saying ministers should be urging the Royal Mail to sit down with the union to agree how to modernise the service as well as sort out the huge pensions deficit.

Yes he knows it, probably seen and heard a lot more of liebours threats and sweetners first hand than he could ever say in public.
But he's locked into the game ,and these are their rules. This move Billy plays the "this is down to you" gambit, ministers response will be "nowt to do with us". If he's on the ball, thats one in the bank to be used at a later date when some Tory in exile says "get these people back to work"
