Todays London Strikes

Once again the strikes across London today was supported by over 98% of the workforce. London CWU members along with other units deserve a huge thanks for the sacrifice they have made for this union. This is the 4th day of strike action that London has been involved and the 5th day is next week.

This union cannot do any deal which does not resolve those offices which have kept the unions policy of no savings and have been attacked and executive action taken.

We have seen the worse kind of bullying managers man marking postmen and women , videoing them on walks, bullying them with threats of executive action , managers being flooded from all over the UK into offices ( don't mention mergers with unite again ) processing staff moved to delivery offices , collection staff having their collections cancelled and moved to deliveries. Individuals with 30+ plus years being allocated to reserve. People losing 4000 pounds in overtime and having to work an extra 46 days per year and still we hold the line and punch back with strike action.

Management want to force us out un officially in order to isolate us as the dispute is biting and working. We are doing every thing to stay legal and whilst it is encouraging that a national ballot will take place September seems a long wait considering the attacks we are facing now.

But our members are determined and we will stay strong and we will fight on and we will win. All units in the country who are balloting or have taken action deserve praise as this is a battle the CWU cannot afford to lose.

All postmen/women must hold their nerve. Summer is always a difficult time of year for us to take any industrial action, traditionally a time of relief for us all after an autumn/winter of full mail capacity. But, we keep standing up for ourselves and the weeks will fly by and we'll be in autumn when the mail volumnes will climb. Then we'll see how much bravado those jokers in senior management have when the work does really pile up, and with hopefully the whole country being in dispute too.
