END OF DELIVERY, DO RM HAVE TO TRANSPORT US BACK??

Post by tragictramp »

Hi,

basically i believe their are a lot of people in my office which are seriously considering ditching using their private cars for delivery, the main reason they are not going out in the vans is that, the dom says that they will be left on the street and not returned to the office, he says this is the policy as we do not have to return to the office for pouching off, we do this in the street with the use of a blue pouch handed in to post office/packets driver in the area. surely your place of work is at the delivery office and as such u should have every entitlement to be returned if u wish. people are not going to catch 2 buses to return to the office just to collect their cars?. Im not sure if the dom says their is a local agreement regarding this but i just cant see how any 1 would have agreed this.

any ideas if this is allowed/agreed with union nationally ?

if this is the case then, i can see why people use their cars, i post about 7 miles from the yard and this takes 2 busses, busses are every half hour on each trip so ure looking at 1 1/2 hrs travel to go and pick up ure car from the office. this aint feasible wasting 11/2 to 2 hrs of ure time.

I expect RM to get me back to the office for my car every day. I'll phone up 15/20 mins before I post last letter asking for a lift. When I finish I start walking back to the office (its about 20/30mins back depending how knackered I am). two things normally happen either I get picked up on route by someone heading in in a van or I walk all the way back. When asked about it the following morning i.e. extra OT I used to say well I phoned for lift but no one came so walked. This went on for 3 weeks, now nothing is said and I continue the same process daily. If I was to catch a bus which I sometimes do when its to hot to walk in it take about 45mins to get back and even then the bus don't quite get as far as the DO. If I have to be finished on time I factor in walking back in so as I finish at 14:45 I factor my last letter as 14:15 as I don't very often get out until 11:15 ish you can imagine how much gets cut offs (I cut off at least every Thursday as my wife works and I need to collect kids from school).

no,you would just take a non driving duty
in our office the resign was done on seniority
however with walks being paired it had to be 1 driver at least per pair and if a duty was taken by a non driver then only a driver could take the paired duty

To add to that the drivers get the slightly easier round (in our DO at least). Packet bursts are easier compared to what the walker has to take.

we had a few of our posties stop using their cars a week ago now. the only reason the rest still use their's is because of having to return to the office by bus to collect the car so you can get back to work the next day.

I went through a huge battle with management who were saying the same thing that they had no responsibility to bring us back due to pouching off and local agreement, after about two weeks of fighting i told them fine if you do not have to bring me back i will cut off 45 mins early to walk back.

The fight then really escalated and i got my area rep in and wihtin a couple of days i had my own van out and my own van back at my bek and call. :left: :chuckle :chuckle

certainly not the case in our office. drivers take large packets for there own and other deliveries, drop off pouches etc. majority of pro delivery is claimed by driving duties

At our place we have 15mins built in to duties for coming back to the office,it's never been used since our revision.
But previously,i used to pick people up and bring them back.

Twas geat as they would have to stop working around 30mins before their duty finishing time.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Ahh, ours just take out the starburst packets for the two joined deliveries.

I would have to cycle at around 25 miles an hour all the way to make it back to my DO in this time. On a five hour a day contract after meal relief I am left with 4hr and 30 mins to complete. With travel time to and from the DO I am left with four hours (and thats being kind).

So I have 30 mins to throw in remainder of walk, do redirects, kill offs, door to doors, tie and bag up, collect specials and grab a van, all in 30 mins. And they wonder why I cutt off all the time. Yep, they blame ME!
