Royal Mail's Policy On Long Term Sickness
Just been diagnosed with cancer and will have to undergo 3 to 6 months of chemotherapy. I'm not entirely certain what Royal Mail's policies on sick pay, rehabilitation/redeployment etc and (worst case scenario) compulsory retirement in such cases are. And also what the pension ramifications might be. I am on a full-time contract. Any information gratefully received.

Re: Royal Mail's Policy On Long Term Sickness
You get full pay for a total of 6 Months, in any 2 year period. After that, you get a further 6 Months at half pay. Then you only get Statatory Sick Pay (SSP).

Re: Royal Mail's Policy On Long Term Sickness
Sorry to hear about your illness.
You will get 6 months full pay then drop down to half pay for a further 6months,during the half pay situation you will also get stat sick pay which bring you up to roughly anywhere between 25 and 40 short of a full wage.
Atos will be on your case with telephone consultations and maybe a visit to see one of their doctors, usually around the 3 to 6 months period.
If your still off after 9 months the business will maybe seek to finish you on ill health grounds.......they offered me it this morning so if you want to talk off thread and ask for advise dealing with Atos etc send us a PM and I will help you anyway I can.

Re: Royal Mail's Policy On Long Term Sickness
Reaaly sorry to hear of your illness. I hope all go`s well with treatment for you.
As posts have said, there will be communication from ATOS, but it is not as bad as all say. I have been off work for 6 months with various problems, some worse than others, but my line manager has been brilliant, and ATOS have been very understanding. It felt to me like applying to the DLA. Just tell them how things get on your worst day and take it form there.
Also the HELP line were a great help to me (0800 6888 777 ). I started getting depressed after about 3 to 4 months, and they were great listners and also people on this site dont mind the odd email, and a comfort when you are at a lose end. Feel free to mail me any time, and i hope all things go well for you.
