Northampton Royal Mail workers in strike ballot over pensions and jobs

Workers at Royal Mail are balloting to strike this week and a national strike has been announced for Friday.
The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) announced yesterday that 12,000 workers across the country will be taking part in Friday's strike, and members will present giant postcards to the chief executive of Royal Mail, Adam Crozier, and Peter Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.
The demonstration and strike is the result of a row about Royal Mail's plans to introduce changes to pensions and job cuts.
Lee Barron, Midlands regional secretary for the CWU, said: "What is beginning to happen is a snowball effect which is going to start to impact on Northamptonshire."
He said workers in the county would not be taking part in the national strike on Friday, but were holding ballots to strike. Delegated members of the CWU Northamptonshire were going to London on Friday to take part in the demonstration, he added.
