Postal workers to join day of action on Friday

Postal workers in Sussex will be joining a day of action on Friday, the Communication Workers Union announced today.
Although they are not joining colleagues in other parts of the country on strike, staff at every delivery office and mail centre in the county will take part in some kind of demonstration.
According to the CWU, this could range from a ban on overtime, a gate meeting or a balloon release.
In other parts of the UK, including London, more than 12,000 postal workers will be out on strike in a row over jobs, pay and services.
Dave Ward, the CWU's deputy general secretary said: “There are serious and growing problems in the postal sector which urgently need resolving. “We have renewed our offer of a three-month no-strike deal to Royal Mail in return for meaningful talks over modernisation.
“The current cuts, bullying managers and ever-increasing workloads on a shrinking workforce cannot continue.
“Pressure and stress is at breaking point for postal workers.”
The union accused Royal Mail of abandoning the final phase of a deal which ended a national strike in 2007, claiming there had been no negotiations over changes to working practices.
Workers taking part in Friday's strike include those based in London, Edinburgh, Bristol, Darlington, Stoke-on-Trent, Plymouth, Norfolk and Essex. The union will also deliver protest letters to the Royal Mail's chief executive, Adam Crosier, and Business Secretary Lord Mandelson.
The union said it was receiving an “ever-growing” number of requests for industrial action from postal workers across the country. Around 400 ballot requests have already been made and Mr Ward warned that without progress the dispute would turn into a national strike.

It comes from the saying there is no such thing as bad publicity - If you are having a balloon release no point in just doing it get the local press involved, use the drip drip effect against the bosses.BELIAL wrote:"a balloon release" , Really does take industrial protest to new heights ,we take no prisoners ,expect management to turn tail at the sight of those free ranging attack dog balloons,we are the invincible united movement of unauthorised balloon releasers,be afraid, be very afraid

Sorry, I just couldn't resist, when the comments about baloons started.
Seriously though: What has a baloon release got to do with a campaign like ours?

Re: Postal workers to join day of action on Friday
Amazing! You just couldn't make this up could you?
What we REALLY need IMHO. Is for someone from HQ to actually go to the Press, and explain our situation properly. And provide a copy of the actual Pay and Modernisation Agreement, as reference for the Press. So they can see for themselves, that it has been consistently misquoted by RM, and exactly which parts they are in clear breach of. But I doubt that they will do that. They're too busy working on cheap publicity stunts, like the baloon release!
It's a pity really, that someone like Dingo, isn't able to deal with the Press. If he went to them with the information he provides on here. We might have a chance of getting something done about this mess!
