Do you think Private Cars will really ever be banned?

Post by theeggster »

I really do not want to really have to keep throwing money at running two cars.Mrs needs one for work as she comes home late at night.I am in that comfort zone doing my walk and must finish about 3/4 of an hour earlier using one.Anyways i need that push to do the job properly so a ban on private cars would save me alot of money but put time on my working day.
Does anyone think cars will be banned soon?

Just stop using it :hmmmm I don't know how difficult that is.............................think of it this way, what would happen if you suddenly lost the use of your car for a couple of weeks :hmmmm

We have a complete ban of the use of private cars in our office. We had a revision and part of the deal was we wanted RM to ban car use. All duties now have vanshare, except rurals and firms and once people accept working to time staff are better off financially as they are no longer putting fuel in their cars. The job is now less stressed as there is no point in rushing about when you are working to time. I say the quicker cars are banned the better for everybody

How are we being selfish ?? We do it to finish early or whatever reason ........... nothing selfish about it .

No, that's not the problem - and calpsy with the amount of times you have appeared in topics regarding this I thought you would have known better. The problem is people boasting that they can do a round in a certain time. The end result is the people who are not using them are pressured into not claiming overtime because 'mr/mrs super postie' can do it without claiming any overtime. It's the same with runners.

That's the problem and of course it's a selfish act, it's so YOU can finish earlier. That is, after all, the definition of a selfish act my friend.

Using cars in our office has been banned for years now, with managers going down the conduct route if needed, in an office of 70+ walkmen no-one uses their own cars for delivery anymore.

Honestly I dont know, ive been with RM for 4.5 years and when I first started a handful of people would use their own cars and I did on occassion but found it really saved no time and didnt really want the worry of it all. Management always made it sound like a big no no and when they started threatning the conduct code people just stopped. It seems to be all down to management if they want to bannish a practise then they can but if it suits them then why bother.

i thought not using cars was because of the insurance consequences issues, and not because someone can do the job a bit quicker/overtime etc
and here comes avi cohen! oh i say! at the same end, he's got one back!!

I'm afraid our managers encourage people to use their own cars. Even to a point where they've recruited people based on wether they have their own transport or not. If they do get banned nationally some time in the future, i don't know how we're gonna cope. We've got some postman who have never done a delivery without their car ........
