Postman remembered with seat

VILLAGERS and former colleagues paid tribute to postman Don Hands, of Evesham, who delivered the letters in Ashton-under-Hill for 30 years.

A fund, the idea of Andy Caddell, was set up in the village intended to mark the retirement of Mr Hands but he died before the presentation could be made and so it was decided to provide an inscribed seat in the village instead.

Villagers and former colleagues were joined by members of his family when the seat alongside the war memorial was unveiled last Saturday.

Jeremy King, of Ashton, one of the organisers, said it was good to see so many representatives of the Post Office present and he thanked them for the magnificent contribution they had made towards the seat.

A spokesman for the postmen said: “He would have loved that.”
