Posties pledge to deliver mail strike

POSTAL workers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action in an attempt to "protect jobs and services from arbitrary cuts".

Some 95 per cent of Communication Workers Union (CWU) members voted in favour of industrial action on Monday when 70 per cent of the London workforce took part in the ballot. A date for the strike has yet to be set.

CWU London spokesman Martin Walsh said: "We're fighting against unacceptable attacks on jobs and services in Royal Mail at a time when the company is performing well.

"Strike action is a last resort for our members who can ill afford to lose wages. However, these cuts and the way management want to impose them are so serious that postal workers have voted nine to one for strike action.

"We want a national agreement which they previously committed to and have now walked away from".

A Royal Mail spokesman said the changes needed in London as mail volumes fall by 10 per cent a year had already been successfully implemented throughout the rest of the country. "Royal Mail is fully honouring an agreement which also protects full-time jobs for all those who want to continue working full-time for Royal Mail," he added. "We call on the union, which only last month said the "pace of modernisation needs to be stepped up", to do the same.

Why only 70%? My office is in Greater London but didn't have a ballot?

The 70% was an average across London the ballot was only open 9 days of which due to the bank holiday and the Sunday there was only 7 delivery days which is not a long time considering the Pay and Mod ballot was open for 4 weeks and only achieved a 74 % result.

Greater London offices can also ballot in line with national policy on the same question as the London members did. Come and join the party the number of offices are increasing requesting a strike ballot is increasing every day.

Ah I see, cheers! I'll be having a word with my union rep in the morning.

I think it might be too late for our office though, even now there are
still idiots who come in early, rush about, do bits of walks for free just
so they can 'go out early' and we started the summer lapsing last year.

We already have 2 part time walks with another 2 full timers leaving
soon, that'll be FOUR walks for us all to prep before we go out.

Is there any hope left!?
