Special leave

Hi All,

My wife has been injured in a motorcylce accident on friday night, she is in hospital awaiting a free space in theatre for an operation on a dislocated shoulder including various fractures within the same area. She is in alot of pain and on morphine and other drugs for the pain and swelling etc.

We have three boys living at home two at university and one at school (secondary)

Would anyone know if I would be entitled to paid special leave or not

Yes. You're entitled to Special Leave. I'm not certain: But I think you will get paid Special Leave, as it was your Wife who was injured.

I hope all goes well with the operation.

i would ask your rep or ring H/R ,i believe you can get special leave because your a dependant with your boy at school,i believe it is your managers descretion tho so contact your rep and H/R ,GL

YES you will get paid special leave but it will only be paid for a day or two so that you can make arrangements for your children to be looked after while YOUR AT WORK

Did it go well?
Did you have any problems getting the Special Leave arranged?

Thanks for the support, Yes she has had her operation it seemed to go well i spoke to the surgeon today, it was a very bad injury, they have had to put a plate in because the socket was shattered too, she was quite chirpy after the op but later on she was in pain again and back on morphine, the surgeon thinks she will be home in a few days. she has a sling for her arm which goes over the shoulder and around her waist which she will need to keep on for approx 3 weeks.

I went into work today to show willing, (im not on deliveries) all my mates were great and they worked a way around so I could start a bit earlier and go ready for visiting due to someone being on holiday. I spoke to my manager, he asked why I was in, I just told him If I need to go I have sorted it with my shift I will not take special leave but once my wife comes home I can be there for her, and may take some special leave then which is what id rather do. financially I will not be as worse off, he was OK with that as we always perform well and never fail work.

So fingers crossed the weather will stay good and she will be home for the weekend
