A postman's dream to have a go at It's a Knockout will come true after he convinced his colleagues to enter the charity competition.
The team of posties are hoping their stamina will give them the edge at the family fun day at Wicksteed Park on Sunday, June 7.

Philip Smith loved watching It's A Knockout on television when he was younger so when he heard the game was coming to town, he started getting a team together.

Ten postmen and women from Kettering will take on other teams at the event, which has been organised by some of the area's biggest charities which are working together for the first time.

Mr Smith, 41, of Oxford Street in Kettering, said: "I'm of a certain age to remember the television show and I always wanted to go on it. It looked a lot of fun and we're a fun-loving bunch.

"Within five minutes of suggesting it, I had all nine volunteers."

The posties all walk for more than three hours every day and Mr Smith said: "Hopefully the fact that we are fairly active will give us the advantage but we don't know who we are up against.

"But we are quite competitive. People tend to recognise us so if you want to come and see your local postman being silly and getting wet, come along and watch us on the day."

The team raised their entrance fee by holding a quiz night, a race night and taking part in the Waendel Walk.

It's A Knockout has been organised by Lakelands Hospice, Cransley Hospice, Kettering General Hospital Charity Fund, Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton and the Rotary Club of Kettering Huxloe.

About 200 people across the area have already signed up to take part in the competition, with hopes it will raise a minimum of £15,000 to be split between the charities.
