So point taken mate, one they reach parliament and as long as its not too blatant, it seems as though they can and will get away with anything.
and this one was a UKIP MEP so not one of the ruling class as such - again probably jailed because he did not know the right people.Would-be MP jailed for fraud
Tuesday, 5 November 1996
David Hurst, a would-be Labour MP who siphoned pounds 31,000 from party coffers in Bath to pay for a lavish lifestyle to impress party bosses, was jailed for 15 months for forging cheques.
Hurst, 35, confessed when police confronted him. He admitted four specimen charges of forgery, asking for 38 other offences to be considered. He was made treasurer of the city's Labour Party in 1992 and last July was chosen to fight the Bath seat, won by Liberal Democrat Don Foster from former Tory chairman Chris Patten in 1992. Bristol Crown Court heard he quit as treasurer and prospective candidate in September last year after being exposed for claiming dole and housing benefits for four years while working. An party inquiry found pounds 30,000 missing from constituency coffers.

Hang on wasn't Jonathan Aitken jailed in the 90s for perjury (telling lies in court) guess he forgot they can only make libellous comments within the Houses of Parliament and get away with it, doing it in court and against a newspaper, he could not quite sweep that one under the carpet.MEP is jailed for benefit fraud
Mote was elected as an MEP in 2004 as a member of UKIP
An MEP for South East England has been jailed for nine months for falsely claiming benefits of more than £65,000.
Former UKIP MEP Ashley Mote, 71, was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court after being found guilty of 21 offences following a four-week trial.
Mote will retain his seat in Europe because he would only have been disqualified if he had received a term of imprisonment of more than 12 months.
So point taken mate, one they reach parliament and as long as its not too blatant, it seems as though they can and will get away with anything.
